The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has opened applications for IBPS Specialist Officer Recruitment 2026 under the Common Recruitment Process CRP SPL-XVI. If you're eyeing a Scale I officer role at one of 11 public sector banks, here's what the notification actually says about dates, eligibility, pay and the selection process.

What Is IBPS CRP SPL-XVI?

CRP SPL-XVI is the sixteenth edition of IBPS's Common Recruitment Process for Specialist Officers, run on behalf of Participating Public Sector Banks. It covers vacancies for the financial year 2027-28. Selection runs through two online exams — Preliminary and Main — followed by a common interview coordinated by a Nodal Bank in each state or region.

A word of caution built into the notification itself: qualifying the CRP doesn't guarantee a job. The participating bank you're provisionally allotted to has the final say and can reject a candidate at its discretion. Provisional allotment is also time-limited — it automatically expires one year after the allotment date, or once a fresh allotment is made, whichever comes first.

Important Dates for IBPS Specialist Officer Recruitment 2026

These are the tentative dates published in the notification. All dates are provisional and subject to change on the official IBPS website.

Specialist Officer Posts and Participating Banks

Six Scale I posts are on offer this cycle: IT Officer, Agricultural Field Officer, Rajbhasha Adhikari, Law Officer, HR/Personnel Officer and Marketing Officer.

The 11 participating banks are Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Punjab National Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank, UCO Bank and Union Bank of India.

You can apply for only one post — multiple applications get summarily rejected, so pick carefully.

Vacancies at a Glance

Vacancy numbers are indicative and depend on what each bank actually reports closer to the recruitment cycle, but the notification's Annexure I gives a current total for each post. Several banks marked their figures as “NR” (not reported), so these totals could shift.

Pay Scale

Specialist Officers, Scale I, start on a basic pay of ₹48,480-2000/7-62,480-2340/2-67,160-2680/7-85,920, plus allowances and perquisites as per the rules of the bank you're allotted to.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

You need to be between 20 and 30 years old as on 01.07.2026 — born between 02.07.1996 and 01.07.2006, both dates inclusive. EWS candidates follow the same age limit as General category; there's no separate relaxation for EWS. Relaxation for other categories:

Educational Qualifications (as on 21.07.2026)

•        IT Officer: A 4-year engineering/technology degree in Computer Science, IT, Electronics or related fields, or a postgraduate degree in the same areas, or a graduate with DOEACC 'B' level.

•        Agricultural Field Officer: A 4-year degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary Science, Dairy Science, Fishery Science or a related agricultural discipline.

•        Rajbhasha Adhikari: A postgraduate degree in Hindi with English as a subject at graduation, or postgraduate Sanskrit with English and Hindi at graduation.

•        Law Officer: An LL.B and enrolment as an advocate with a Bar Council.

•        HR/Personnel Officer: A graduate degree plus a two-year full-time postgraduate degree or diploma in Personnel Management, IR, HR, HRD, Social Work or Labour Law.

•        Marketing Officer: A graduate degree plus a two-year full-time MBA/MMS/PGDM with a Marketing specialisation.

For posts other than IT Officer, candidates also need to have studied Computer/IT as a subject at some stage, or hold a relevant certificate/diploma. No equivalent qualification will be accepted in place of what's specified — IBPS is explicit about that.

Nationality

You must be an Indian citizen, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who settled in India before 1 January 1962, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or specified East African countries with the intention of permanently settling in India (with an eligibility certificate from the Government of India, where applicable).

Application Fee

Fees are payable online only, between 01.07.2026 and 21.07.2026, and bank transaction charges are borne by the candidate.

Exam Pattern for CRP SPL-XVI

Selection runs through two online exams.

Preliminary Examination

For IT Officer, Agricultural Field Officer, HR/Personnel Officer and Marketing Officer:

For Law Officer and Rajbhasha Adhikari, Quantitative Aptitude is replaced with General Awareness (special reference to banking), keeping the same 100 questions, 125 marks and 80-minute format.

Candidates must clear the cut-off in each section to be shortlisted for the Main exam.

Main Examination

For IT Officer, Agricultural Field Officer, HR/Personnel Officer and Marketing Officer:

For Rajbhasha Adhikari and Law Officer, the same objective structure (150 questions, 200 marks, 125 minutes, with General Awareness in place of Quantitative Aptitude) is followed by a descriptive paper worth 25 marks over 30 minutes — Professional Knowledge (Descriptive) for Rajbhasha Adhikari, and a Descriptive English paper for Law Officer — taking the total to 225 marks across 155 minutes.

There's a penalty for wrong answers in the objective sections: 0.25 marks deducted per wrong answer, with no penalty for unattempted questions. In the Main exam, only the Professional Knowledge score is used for merit ranking; the other sections are just qualifying.

Selection Process: Interview and Provisional Allotment

Candidates who clear the Main exam move to a common interview worth 100 marks, coordinated by the Nodal Bank in each state or region. The minimum qualifying mark is 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates).

The Main exam and interview are weighted 80:20 for the final merit list. Based on this combined score and category-wise vacancies, candidates are provisionally allotted to one of the participating banks. A reserve list of roughly 20% of vacancies per category may also be maintained, though this doesn't guarantee an eventual allotment.

How to Apply

Applications are accepted online only, through www.ibps.in. You'll need to register, upload a photograph, signature, left thumb impression and a handwritten declaration (in your own handwriting, in English, not in capital letters), along with your SSC/10th standard certificate. Digi Locker integration lets you optionally pull in documents like your Aadhaar or educational records.

Once submitted, most fields — including name, email, mobile number, address and post applied for — cannot be edited except during a short edit window after registration closes, and even then only once, for a ₹200 correction fee.

Documents You'll Need

At the interview stage, be ready with:

•        Printout of the valid interview call letter and the system-generated online application form

•        Proof of date of birth (birth certificate or SSLC/Std. X certificate with DOB)

•        Valid photo identity proof matching the name on the call letter

•        Mark sheets and certificates for your educational qualifications

•        Category certificates (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwBD) in the prescribed formats, where applicable

•        Ex-servicemen: service or discharge book, pension payment order and rank proof

•        Candidates in government/PSU employment: a No Objection Certificate from their current employer

Missing documents at this stage can make your candidature invalid, so it's worth gathering these early rather than at the last minute.

Final Word

CRP SPL-XVI gives specialist graduates and professionals a genuine shot at officer-level roles across India's public sector banking network, but the eligibility windows and document requirements are strict and largely non-negotiable once you submit your application.
